Shahriar Nafees, a left-handed opening batsman of Bangladesh national team. Nafees passed Higher Secondary Certificate examination from the prominent St. Joseph Higher Secondary School of Bangladesh. Now studying in Dhaka University. His nickname is "Abir". Nafees got his early cricket lessons from the teacher Wahidul Gani. Nafees is nephew of one of the selectors of bangladesh cricket team and former bangladeshi cricketer Faruk Ahmed.

Nafees first played in the national team in Bangladesh's maiden English Tour (2005). At the age of 19 he was thrust into the Test squad for their maiden tour of England with just five first-class matches behind him. He hadn't fared too badly in those, however, with 350 runs at 35, and his Under-19 coach Richard McInness reckoned he had the talent and temperament to become a future Test captain. He did get an opportunity in the NatWest Series, and cashed in with 75 in the final one-dayer against Australia. He made his Test debut in Sri Lanka in September 2005, and made 51 in his second match. Nafees scored his maiden first-class century, as well as his first in Tests, at Fatullah in April 2006 against Australia. He scored his maiden one-day hundred against Zimbabwe in August 2006. Nafees was appointed vice-captain for the Champions Trophy in India in October 2006 with the view of grooming a successor for Habibul Bashar. The tournament was a successful one for him as he scored his second ODI century, again Zimbabwe were his opponents. He scored his third century against Zimbabwe again in November. Finished 2006 with over 1000 ODI runs, becoming the first Bangladeshi pass that milestone in a calendar year. He also won the Bangladesh's cricketer-of-the-year award for 2006.
